Carter E. Summers CPA, CMA and Virtual CFO

Experienced Professional
"Experience, action, and knowing where to get help are the keys to solving business problems."

Virtual CFO
Since 1983, Carter has been providing chief financial officer (CFO) services on a permanent, part-time basis for companies in a variety of industries. The advance in information and communication technology has made it possible to serve clients more quickly and with much less cost. Carter now functions as a virtual CFO for his clients.

"It truly is exciting to see the advancement in financial management being introduced by the internet. Now we can quickly serve clients no matter where they are or how far-flung their operations."

VP of Operations and CFO
From 1999 to 2002, Carter served Vice President of Operations and CFO on a full-time basis for Hart Scientific, Inc. Carter was recruited to help structure the company for sale. In 2001 the company was successfully sold to Danaher Corporation and Carter remained in his capacity for a year and a half to assist in the transition to new ownership. Under Danaher Corporation's guidance Carter assisted in the transformation to a "lean manufacturing" company.

"My experience with Hart was almost like a sabbatical leave. Preparing a small public company for sale to another public company was truly a learning experience, and I enjoyed very much participating in the process of converting Hart Scientific to a lean manufacturing company."

Bank Director
Merrill Lynch Bank USA (since 1991)
Carter was named to the board of directors of Merrill Lynch Bank USA in 1991 and has participated in the direction of the bank while it grew from $250 million in assets to nearly $70 billion. As an Outside Director, Carter chairs the bank's audit committee.

"Serving as a director of a rapidly growing bank has been both challenging and rewarding. I have great respect to the present banking system in this country and the key role it plays in our vibrant economy."

Carter joined the audit division of this international accounting firm immediately upon graduation from Brigham Young University. He worked in both the Arizona and Utah offices supervising audits of public and private companies in banking, government, agri-business, manufacturing, trucking, retail and construction industries.

"Arthur Andersen & Co. was a great place to gain experience with the world of accounting and business. My nine years under the tutelage of that firm provided the solid business base that I use and value to this day."
